I'm usually not a " new year, new me" type of person. But as I've gotten older, I've realized that it's important to set *realistic* goals for yourself. It allows you to hold yourself accountable throughout the year and it helps promote growth. I really stress the importance of a REALISTIC goal. If your goal is to be a billionaire by the end of the year, then sis, we need to talk because...how!? I‘m not saying don’t be ambitious but don’t set yourself up for failure either.
If you ever sit-in on a goal setting class (yes, I’ve done this), they will teach you the importance of a S.M.A.R.T ( specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, timely) goal. I’m breaking the rules a little because I don’t necessarily have set dates for when I want to accomplish these things, I just know that it’s “before 2019 is over.” 🤷🏾♀️
I do plan to revisit this list at the end of the year to see how much I actually get done.
So here it is, my list of 2019 goals! In no particular order
Start a blog- Mission accomplished on this one. Now I just need to commit to maintaining it.
Start paying back my student loan. I was blessed enough to only have one, and when compared to others, it's not much money, but it's more than I have in the bank and I haven't started paying on it since I graduated in May of 2017- I know sis, I know. But when you ain't got it (money, time, patience), you just ain't got it!
Move out of LA city. Bae and I have been wanting to move out of LA for a while now and head back near the beach. This is really high on my list of things to get done this year!
Spend more time with friends & family. My dad, brothers, grandma, and I, have started doing a monthly breakfast/brunch and I'm loving it! Life can get busy and it makes me happy to know that at least once a month we're all getting together and spending quality time together. And on that note, I really need to be making more of an effort to call my family that doesn't live near me!
5. Travel more- Even if it's just locally. Maybe its come with age but I have a desire to see more of the world. All my life I've had an extremely limiting fear of flying. Even when I travel domestically I'll drive/ take a bus or a train before flying. So I'm hoping to start getting out more!
6. Big chop-Another item that's recently been checked off of my list! Stay tuned to watch me progress on my natural hair journey!
7. Be more mindful of my health-This includes my mental and physical health. I want to work-out more and commit to using the Headspace app to meditate everyday! I also want to drink more water, eat a healthier diet (even though it's not horrible now) and find a therapist. It's 2019! We're out here un-apologetically taking care of our mental health!!
8. Save money- I've been fortunate enough to have a good job this year, and I can start saving money like an adult is supposed to. Since I've never been in a position to save money before, I'm really excited about it. I never want to be in another situation where I literally have no money in the bank (2018), so saving is a must!
What are some goals you're hoping to get done by the end of the year? Write them down, and check them off as you complete them. I always feel so accomplished when I can cross or check something off of my to-do list!
